as I've read and by seeing on data about the bhp of the 500 when registered to run on the road is set to 20bhp.
that's a big difference from the 32 it should be kicking out.
now why I look for a quad I don't know if I'll get chance to buy an off-road only quad that hasn't been restricted.
so how do they restrict them? is it easy to derestrict them?

I believe the 500 has a pin sticking out that's in the way of the throttle lever on the carburetor, meaning you only have to bend the pin out of the way or break it and then you can adjust a limiting screw on the throttle mechanism on the handlebars to allow full throttle travel. I'd say most of the used 500s you can buy are probably derestricted already. My 800 had a pin in the way of the throttle lever on the throttle body, so i just bent it out of the way and adjusted the limiter on the handlebars. 20 hp or the rated 63 was a massive difference, but it should be pretty substantial on the 500 as well.

I would imagine they are rubbish at doing anything being restricted to that kind of power!
